Trading Insults

Category: Uncategorized

Heard a radio ad recently advertising ‘inspiring insults’. Inspiring insults? Hello!!!!!!!!! Thank God for mobile telephony and its benefits and all but selling insults by SMS is taking it too far, i feel.

Picture this.

Its the end of the year and the company peddling these insults [and other mobile solutions] meets to discuss their performance for the year. Each brand/sales manager stands up to defend their performance for the year and presents their projections for the future. When it comes to the turn of the Brand Manager-Insults, he goes:

“We sold X number of insults in 2008. This is not too far from our projections as predicted at the beginning of the year. But next year, we hope to sell more insults. We have put a team in place to make our insults more edgy and daring. We are also looking at importing some insults from the US and UK. We are certain these imported insults will become quite a hit. We feel insults are a viable business and if given the right support, they will  become our flagship product, overtaking ‘jokes’ and ‘news’ as our cashcow in the foreseeable future.  Insults are the future, they remain the only growth frontier available to this organization”.

Its a crazy world we r living in.

At the end of the presentation, the boss goes “that is the dumbest shtick I ever sat through”.

Does the salesman respond “and that would make a great addition to our bank of insults”?

    Hehehehe.
    Very funny.
I wonder who ends up feeling insulted. Then agasin who cares as long as it’s funny. It’s just a pity that sometimes people don’t get the joke. They think it’s all about them and their insecurities. You feel like shouting: “Get your head out of your a**. It’s not all about you. Just eff*ng laugh for once in your flaming life!”

    I get it jare.

I wonder who ends up feeling insulted? Then again, who cares as long as it’s funny. It’s just a pity that sometimes people don’t get the joke. They think it’s all about them and their insecurities. You feel like shouting: “Get your head out of your a**. It’s not all about you. Just eff*ng laugh it off for once in your flaming life!”

    I get it jare.

It will sell in Nigeria, but not too much…. We are thin-skinned. we dey vex quick, we dey quick to tell people say we no be their mate. We do praise singers. And collectively we arnt cynical enough…[ also we are superstitious and are quick to respond ‘not my portion. no carry bad thing play’]

It wont sell on that level you are imagining…..
